THE Climbing Barn at Milton Abbot was busier than normal on the day of the annual West Devon Primary Schools’ bouldering competition, organised by Okehampton Community Recreation Association.

Teams of six from Gulworthy, Lamerton, Bridestowe, Mary Tavy and Brentor, Horrabridge, Lydford, Boasley Cross, Okehampton, Milton Abbot, St Peter’s, St Andrew’s and Exbourne scampered up and down the boulder in the barn and many children faced some personal challenges in the process.

Horrabridge Primary School had two strong teams and gained first and third place in the competition. Milton Abbot was sandwiched into second place between them; Lamerton were fourth and Gulworthy and St Andrew’s shared fifth place. Next came St Peter’s, Mary Tavy and Brentor A, Okehampton, Lydford, St Andrew’s B, Boasley Cross, Bridestowe, Mary Tavy and Brentor B then Exbourne.

Organisers thanked the Climbing Barn team who set up and scored the competition. This event has grown to be popular with the children.
