OKEHAMPTON Prim-ary School pupil Alfie Sequeira is making the right moves when it comes to playing chess for his county.

Alfie, aged 10, only took up chess last year when his school organised a tournament. His talent was soon recognised and he was asked to join a chess club in tournament.

This month Alfie was part of the Devon team who competed in the 2018 Welsh Jamboree on January 13.

He was part of the Devon team who came second in the U11s tournament - a great result as they had not finished in podium place for quite a while.

The talented player was a winner of the English Rivera tournament in October last year.

Alfie has now been selected, alongside a teammate, to go to Swindon to take part in for the West Of England Chess Championship in February.
