Tavistock seconds v Ivybridge seconds

TAVISTOCK entertained Ivybridge on Saturday hoping to continue their winning run. Winning the toss and batting nobody seemed to go on from a start amongst the early batsman.

Chris Monger provided some lusty blows but at 78-5 Tavistock were struggling to post a decent score, mainly down to an excellent spell of bowling from Jerry Clough who took 4-35 in his nine overs. Ben Russell at number seven joined the steady Sam Willetts; Russell hit five fours in one over to boost the scoring, contributing 35 in a partnership of 47.

A mini collapse saw the score plummet to 132-8. Chris Hutchins helped take the score to 153 before Callum Worth joined Willetts for the last seven overs. They added a thrilling 60 with Worth and Willetts both hitting many sixes. Willetts' excellent 70 not out was the backbone of the innings and showed great maturity.

Callum Worth's 29 not out helped the cause and Tavistock were well pleased at 213-9.

Ivybridge began well and the game was well poised at 85-1 when the rain came and halted proceedings.

Tavistock seconds v Kingsbridge seconds

TAVISTOCK travelled to Kingsbridge hoping to maintain their good start to the season. Batting first, a disappointing start saw two wickets down for 20 runs. John McGahey's experience lifted the scoreboard along and helped by Sam Willetts took the score to 164-5.

When Mark Hopkins joined McGahey the fireworks really started. 'Hoppy' hammered the Kingsbridge attack scoring an amazing 102 not out off just 31 balls hitting eight sixes along the way.

With McGahey reaching his century as well, Tavistock roared to 304 for 7 at the end of their overs. This is the first time for many years that two Tavistock batsmen have reached a century in the same game.

Kingsbridge did well in reply reaching 89-2 but struggled after that and subsided to 147 all out.

Chris Hutchins bowled well for 3-29 and captain Mark Webber took 4 for 20 with his spinners.
