TAVISTOCK A 2

PLYMPTON GRAMMAR SCHOOL OLD BOYS 1

TAVISTOCK A returned to form after the festive break. Plympton Grammar School Old Boys came to  Mount Kelly  hoping to repeat their pre-Christmas win, but met a much improved Tavistock team.

The first 10 minutes were even, but Tavistock began to dominate the midfield and create chances. Solly Kurtzman provided the lead after 21 minutes, lifting the ball skilfully into the top of the net from close range. More attacks went unrewarded and PGSOB were only looking dangerous on the break. They won a penalty corner however, leading to a powerful strike. Keeper Fletcher stretched a pad to it but the deflected ball hit defender Anning on the forearm and a penalty flick was awarded. The flick was perfectly placed, leaving Fletcher no chance and tying the game at half time.

Tavistock won several penalty corners and came close each time. A pattern developed – Tavistock attacking and PGSOB trying to launch counter-attacks with less success. Had things gone their way, the home side could have led by several goals by this time.

When it came, Tavistock’s second goal was well created and finished by Jake Walker and should have put the match beyond doubt. PGSOB however, had other ideas and began to pile the pressure on. Tavistock were slow to respond allowing the visitors to get back in the match. Fortunately Tavistock had done enough, holding their lead to the final whistle.

Man of the match for Tavistock A was Angus Harley, showing great composure and distributing the ball superbly around the whole pitch.
