TAVISTOCK U9s took 11 players to the 20 team festival at the Exeter Saracens on Sunday.

TAVISTOCK's first test was a good Kingsbridge side and it involved tough defence from both teams. Toby B, Dan and Ewan provided strong tackling, stopping Kingsbridge from crossing Tavistock's line. Eventually, a good outside move rounded Tavistock's defence and Kingsbridge scored.

Good runs from Tom and Billy and some good powerful play from captain Logan started to force Kingsbridge back towards their own line. Toby B came close to scoring, with good support from Jonathan and Jacob.

TAVISTOCK had the perfect start when Toby B ran in a weaving try. The game then settled down, with both sides battling, until Okehampton scored a breakaway try down the left hand side. Tavistock fought back with powerful runs from Tom and Billy, setting up William's try.

Tavistock then began to take control and held Oke back, with strong tackling from Logan and good team tackling from Jacob, Jonathan and Oscar. Toby B broke through the Oke defence again to give Tavistock a 15-5 halftime lead.

In the second half, long runs from Toby L and Oscar gained a lot of ground and in the ensuing move, Ewan dodged his way in to score. Hard tackling by Dan held Oke at bay, until they scored on another breakaway near the end.

Ivybridge U9s 5

IN the quarter final both sides defended well and tackled hard. Ivybridge came close to scoring a couple of times, but Tavistock's defence stiffened as they neared their own line with captain Toby B leading the way. A strong tackle from Toby L and a great double tackle from Dan kept the game scoreless, until Ivybridge's pressure eventually found a way over the line.

In the second half good rucking from forwards Tom and Logan started to put some pressure on Ivybridge, whilst Billy and William constantly harassed their ball carriers. Both teams tried to find a way through the defence of the other, but time ran out on a gutsy Tavistock performance.
