Devon girls’ U18s cup

Oke U18s 0

Marjons U18s 4

DESPITE the cold, Okehampton’s U18 girls were full of energy for their first game together.

The match, against Plymouth Marjons, began evenly with the Oke defenders, Emilia Bazeley, Izzy Rowlands, Sophie Mugliston and Hannah Woodhams tirelessly stopping the opposition’s attackers in their stride, directed superbly by Ella Kaye in goal.

The Okehampton midfield composing of Molly Marvin, Ellie Shayler, Annie Strawbridge and Zoe Curtis, tracked continuously up and down the pitch to aid with the attack, putting together some excellent passes. However. Marjons dominated and scored an early goal while Okehampton were preoccupied on their own break.

With changes in positions after half time, the Oke team were caught unawares once again, allowing Marjons the opportunity to grab two more goals. After this, Okehampton were determined to turn the game around and occupied their attacking half for a long time, with excellent shots coming from Eleanor Marvin and Emily Rowlands being deflected by the goal keeper.

The Oke team continued their persistent hustling when defending and tackled consistently in the attempt to gain a goal. Despite some good set pieces from short corners, Okehampton were denied any such joy. They continued to defend, and even whilst multiple short corners were given against them, only conceded one more goal.

Although the score line was not in their favour, the Oke team were not left disheartened as they played superbly, exaggerated more by the fact their only training together had been just half an hour.
