TAVISTOCK U15s had a tough start to the season, with an opening match against Barnstaple.

Barnstaple dominated from the start, and despite great efforts from the Tavistock defence were 22 points up at half-time. The home side stepped up a gear in the second half, bringing on fresh legs which Tavistock were not able to counter. Despite the disappointing scoreline, Tavistock can take some positives from this match.

Individual excellent performances give cause for optimism once the season gets properly underway, as does the fighting spirit shown by the whole team, who kept their heads up and played positively right till the end.

Tavistock's rucking was much better than previously, and the scrum held up well, managing to keep possession even when being pushed back by a heavier opposition.

Will Paull and Angus Hogg put in some crucial tackles, and Charlie Fethney came close to scoring more than once, despite being closely marked from the start.
