WHEN West Devon C and West Devon B meet in the Tavistock Snooker League, their encounters are rarely one sided and this meeting was no exception.
Williams put the C team one up with a controlled win over Daniel Rich, with Hoare pulling the B team level at a canter as he cruised past Boyd. Back came the WD C team with Grigg having the audacity to take out the B team skipper Gilchrist, and edge his team in front again.
The next two frames reflected how tight the match was with both frames going to the wire to be settled by ‘black ball’ frames. Firstly Roger Rich of the WD B team progressed his good showing this season by getting the edge on in form Elliott to pull his team level yet again. Then his team mate Bluett keeping his nerve to secure the match for the WD B team by removing Shrimpton (senior) in the deciding frame. Definitely not one for those of a nervous disposition.
Symons for Conservative Z team failed to make any impact on the evenings proceedings against the Golf Club A’s Ruth. Struggling from the start Symons could not contain his opponent and barely managed to get on the scoreboard. It was a promising start for Golf A.
Hodge for Con Z recognised the danger against this high flying Golf A team and pulled out all the stops to arrest their progress in a thoughtful and disciplined display against Bruty to pull his team level.
New signing for Con Z, Hackney, showed his potential with a strong performance against the Golf A’s highly regarded Whitley; despite some erratic power shots Hackney gained the upper hand and gave his team the slender lead. Mayors, a potential player of the year for the Con Z, faced Pope who despite his best efforts could not cope with Mayor’s direct and potent style, another win for the wunderkind and the game for the Conservative Z.
It was left to Flack for Con Z to put the icing on the cake which he did after a strong but ineffective rear guard action by Coveney.
