TAVISTOCK Swimming Club boys’ captain Kieran Rookes competed in the City of Plymouth ASA open water swim.

This open water event, which is commonly known as the Breakwater Swim, involved being taken out to the Plymouth Breakwater by boat and the swimmers are then required to swim back across Plymouth Sound – a distance of 2.2 miles (4 km) to the eastern side of Tinside pool.

Kieran was among the brave swimmers who took part in the race, which involved contending with boat wakes, tides and large jelly fish, as well as ensuring that they swim to the finish in the most direct route possible.

He swam a direct route from start to finish and gained a well-earned win in this his first attempt at the Breakwater swim. He completed the race in an excellent time of 42 minutes and 28 seconds.
