OKEHAMPTON LADIES’ SECONDS 2
TORBAY LADIES 1
OKEHAMPTON seconds faced a Torbay side who were one point ahead of them in the league.
The first half saw strong play from Oke midfielders Rochelle Wollacott, Louise Weller and Ellie Shayler which gave plenty of opportunities for forwards Amy Taylor, Sophie Tripp, Nicky Strawbridge and Zoe Curtis to carry the ball up the pitch and take on Torbay’s strong defence.
Torbay had several attacking breaks but were slowed down by left and right backs Elsa Frangleton and Debbie Pritchard who made some strong tackles and passes ensuring Torbay did not touch that ball. Possession was matched throughout this half, with both teams having strong attacking gains almost resulting in goals. 0-0 at half time.
After half time, Oke were determined to score. The whole team moved forward and there was strong defensive play from backs Nicky Bennie, Rachel Hammet and captain Anna Luxton.
Oke scored first after strong defensive play was offloaded to the midfield, who then found player of the match Amy Taylor, who popped it into the goal. Torbay came back strong and gained a penalty corner of which they scored the equaliser. The pressure was now on for Oke.
After a save on the line by Anna Luxton, Oke found the space once again to find Sophie Tripp on the post to make it 2-1 to the home team. With ten minutes remaining, Torbay had two green cards so Oke had the opportunity to attack the D. Several chances were created but the home side could not find the back board.
