WITH the Plymouth and District Tennis League soon to start, Tavistock Tennis Club men’s and ladies’ teams are undergoing doubles coaching with top Devon Lawn Tennis Association professional Linden Hardisty.
Last year there were some demotions for Tavistock’s teams, a trend, the club is optimistic, that this training will help reverse.
The men’s first team, however, is back in division one with a young, hard-hitting core and hopes to perform well this summer.
The club enters four teams for the men’s, and two for the ladies’ P and D League.
Linden, who has played for GB, is one of the country’s top coaches and has been appointed, along with Rhys Dunford — now a county player who came up through Tavistock’s junior ranks) - to run senior and junior coaching at Tavistock Tennis Club.
One innovation they will bring to the club this summer is ’cardio-tennis’ — a form of tennis-come-aerobics-come-line-dancing fitness training to music loosely based on tennis drills — no need to be a tennis player or a member of the club to get fit this way, these sessions will be open to anyone who’d like to come down to the Meadowlands Park for an hour’s health-giving work-out.
