THE benefits of a summer's training shone through at the weekend as Mid Devon Pony Club's Tetrathletes posted plenty of personal bests.

Competing at the Spooners Pony Club's annual tetrathlon, the seven Mid Devon members had nine pbs between them. Evelyn Moody improved her scores in all three phases, knocking almost 20 seconds off her run time, finishing sixth in her class. Meanwhile her sister Amelia finished with a pb run as well, doing superbly to finish second in her age group.

In the nine and unders, Rob Bilton produced his best shoot and after a pb run finished fifth in the triathlon part of the competition and in the same class, Christopher Wrey also finished with a pb run. In the novice junior classes, Simon Moody and Laurie Bilton finished third and fifth, with Simon having a pb swim, while in the junior boys Thomas Bayley cracked the the seven length barrier in the swimming pool.

The cross country riding part of the competition took place on Sunday at Sampford Spiney. Tom Bayley rode a beautiful clear round to move up into second place in his class. Rob Bilton rode really well as he and his pony Cherry went to moved up to third place in his age group. Laurie and Amelia both found some challenges around the course.

The Mid Devon team finished fifth out of ten teams, which was a great reward for their hard work.
