Trelawny two
Okehampton ladies’ thirds 1
Newquay ladies’ seconds 5
THE strong, experienced Newquay team took control of the game from the beginning forcing Okehampton to drop back and defend.
Newquay attacked in numbers pushing high into the Oke circle. Their first goal came when a free Newquay player received the ball in front of goal and found the corner of the net.
The away team increased their lead from a well rehearsed penalty corner routine resulting in a cannon-ball like shot hitting the back board. They added another goal from open play to give them a 3-0 cushion.
Oke’s inexperience showed but the determined team worked hard to gain ball possession. At every opportunity they surged forward and soon scored when nifty Emma Wiseman slipped past her defender and beat the Newquay keeper to find the back of the net.
In the second half Oke continued to battle hard and were rewarded with a more even game. The visitors’ attackers were still hungry for more goals and cleverly created several penalty corner situations and near the end of the match Newquay added two more goals.
Okehampton ladies’ thirds 1
Launceston ladies 2
OKEHAMPTON played this re-arranged fixture on Sunday and were caught off their guard when the quick Launceston forwards surged ahead in the first five minutes pushing them onto the back foot.
Soon the away team capitalised on this advantage and found the back of the Oke net.
This woke the Oke team up and clever defending by Melissa Pinfield and Rochelle Woolacott kept Launceston’s main striker out of the game. Although Launceston were awarded several penalty corners Oke kept them at bay with strong clearances from keeper Daisy Morgan.
Oke were gaining in confidence as the game progressed. Maddie Arden looked dangerous on the right attack penetrating the Launceston defence with her sizzling runs. Oke’s strong play was rewarded when Arden crossed the ball into the Launceston circle where Sarah Marvin was perfectly placed to deflect the ball into the net.
Just before half time Oke gave away a penalty flick. Launceston placed the ball high into the net and although the Oke keeper reacted quickly and reached for the ball it tipped into the net.
Oke owned the second half piling on the pressure but the dominant Launceston keeper proved difficult to beat. Oke player of the Match Emily Rowlands worked tirelessly in midfield winning the ball and pushing forward to trouble the oppositions’ defence. All the Oke team were keen to attack but whatever they did they could not get an equaliser.
