TAVISTOCK Tennis Club members enjoyed another fine September day on which to play their annual tournament finals. The tournament included five events including both singles and doubles. The men's singles final was won by defending champion Peter Bradley who defeated Phil Harbottle. The women's singles title also went to defending champion Amanda Goodison who beat Hilary Picton in a hard fought contest. Phil Harbottle and Alex Ewing won the men's doubles in a close contest against Rick Read and John Stewart. The women's doubles champions were Maggie Lilley and Lynda Williams who beat Barbara Chalk and Amanda Goodison. In the mixed doubles cup Amanda Goodison and Matt Smith overcame Jenny Read and George Newman in an exciting contest. The event was well attended by members past and present and the tennis was followed by the cup awards by club president David Isaac. Chairman Paul Jackson said: This was another highly enjoyable club event which was great fun for competitors and spectators alike.' He thanked all club members for their support and enthusiasm and looked forward to many more lively competitions. The club offers coaching for adults and children and is an active participant in the Plymouth and West Devon Doubles League.
