ON Sunday the Tavistock Sea Swimmers - comprising of locals Richard Staniland, Tim Lowe, David and Tom Brittan, Sam Rapson and Nick Sleep - successfully completed the round Burgh Island sea swim.

The swim is in aid of the Chestnut Appeal fund at Derriford Hospital in aid of a prostate cancer scanner. They were among 130 swimmers, some of whom had travelled from far afield to take part in this tough 2.2 mile event.

Organisers thanked the team of volunteers without whom the appeal would not be able to run these events and all the 2016 Burgh Island swimmers.

The Chestnut Appeal for prostate cancer hopes to soon announce the purchase of the MRI fusion scanner at a cost of £104,000 — the first of its kind in the region.

The Tavistock team now has two more weeks training before tackling the rearranged breakwater to Plymouth swim on Sunday, October 2.

The swimmers appeal to Times readers to support their justgiving page which is at www.justgiving.com/tavistockseaswimmers to enable them to earn as much as possible for this worthy charity.
