A GROUP of 22 swimmers from Tavistock Swimming Club competed in the Plymouth Leander non-national meet at the Plymouth Life Centre.
The event had more than 500 swimmers from 34 clubs competing. Some of the Tavistock swimmers were tasting their first experience of competing in a long-course gala but this did not hinder them producing excellent performances, with most swimmers beating their entry times.
The superb swims in the heats saw a number of swimmers reach finals. The squad achieved 50 top 10 placings in 106 events, which included five first placings. There were records by Luke Stephens in the 13 years boys 50m and 100m breaststroke, with Kieran Rookes winning the same events in the 15 years and over age group, whilst in this top age group Matt Edwards won the 400m freestyle.
Other medals were won in the 15 and over age group by Nathaniel Rookes, third in the 50m breaststroke, and Matt Edwards who was second in the 400m IM and third in the 200m butterfly and freestyle. Luke Stephens also achieved a third place in the 50m backstroke in his age group.
Also swimming in the gala were James Anderson, Gemma Arundel, Ben and Jessica Bowles, Jessamy Clemens, Harriet Edwards, Emily and Jake France, Alex and Amber Francis, Pete Jarman, Chloe Marks, Cameron McGurk, Daisy & George Morgan, Sarah Teague, Beth and Harry Thompson.
