Morley Rangers ladies 1
Tavistock CFC ladies 3
ALL credit must go to Tania Coker who pulled this team back from the brink of folding and took the ladies to their first win of the season.
Play was mostly in Tavistocks half for the first 10 minutes with Morley hitting the post and shots just going wide.
With Gemma Small and Becky McMullin commanding the midfield Tavistock soon started to move upfield.
Hammond, Philip, Bammens and Coker were strong at the back but had to use their experience in dealing with the fast Morley strikers.
Lauren, as ever, played bravely, in goal.
McMullins long drive forward for Tavistock saw Jess Eales crossed over to Rebecca Gordon resulting in a defender handling in the area. Hammond confidently smashed the ball into the net to put Tavistock into the lead.
Morley with their youth and fitness and attacked Tavistock down the wings but after another long drive forward from McMullin a ball was met by Gordon who, after some fancy, footwork tapped the ball into the net.
Tavistock went into the second half with a 2-0 lead. Morley kept attacking and after ten minutes scored a long range shot just going over the finger tips of Lauren.
Tavistock did not let this sway them and Hone, Small and McMullin with some lovely one touch football kept the attacks going. Eales battled furiously using her height and speed.
Hammond handled the ball in the Tavistock area and a penalty was awarded to Morley. However the Morley striker hit the ball wide. Tavistock held firm and great play by Hone and McMullin saw Gordon free with a one on one with the Morley keeper. Gordon took a touch and then shot low and wide into the back of the net.
In the last 20 minutes Jones and Bammens used their speed and covered everywhere for Tavistock.
A long ball forward saw Lauren finger tip save but fell back to a Morley forward who smashed the ball past her — unfortunately for them it was ruled offside.
This was a well deserved three points for Tavistock ladies and player of the match went to Becky Gordon.
The ladies train on Tuesday nights at crowndale from 7pm to 8pm. Newcomers welcome.
