AFTER a thrilling hockey match on Saturday Tavistock Ladies first eleven are
finally sitting at the top of Trelawney division one.
Away to Duchy firsts at Pool School in Redruth the match started with pace and determination from both teams.
Duchy were first on the attack which was held out by Tavistock defenders and keeper Zoe Viggers.
The first goal came from Tavistock when Robynne Honey darted past the Duchy players to lay the ball off to Becky Lamb, who drove the ball in along the back line and swept the ball in on a very tight angle.
Duchy fought back hard and despite their fierce tackles and encouragement from their supporters Tavistock remained undeterred and in control of the game. A short corner was awarded to the away side, which was converted by captain Laura Armstrong who turned on the reverse side and swiped the ball through the keepers legs. 2-0 to Tavistock.
After more end to end play Duchy made a quick break, leaving Tavistock on the back foot and managed to slice the ball in from a tight angle making it 2-1 at half time.
The second half bought tense moments as Duchy continued to pile on the pressure but an incredibly committed back line of Hannah Colston, George Patterson and Ellie Evans with help from captain Armstrong cut out as much as they could.
Several strikes from Duchy were saved by keeper Viggers who was the visitors' player of the match.
The final goal game from a hard ball into the D which deflected off striker Abi Hall into the goal to make the final score 3-1 to Tavistock. This was a fantastic team effort by the Tavistock women.
