ON Jubilee Saturday Tavistock Golf Club players enjoyed sunshine, but windy conditions, when they played the Jubilee three ball team event.
The men took the top three places with Lester Francis, Graham Dennis and Graham Ruth scoring 77 points on countback from Glyn Cunnick, Mike Wakeley and Mike Beveridge and Alan Gawman, Garry Foster and Nick Coe.
With 76pts were the best mixed team of Gus Robb, John and Gabrielle Greening and the best ladies team with 74pts were Gail Reed, Jenny Kay and Hazel Cash.
The weather was not so kind for the mixed open with driving rain and strong winds! Despite the weather the Tavistock pair Tony Cooper and Julie Harding scored a superb 46pts to win the Betty Young trophy for the best Tavistock pair. From Tehidy Park with 43 pts were Kevin Lean and Louise Eslick, Jeff and Sandra Belch (Whitsand Bay) had 42pts. Dave and Peggy Burge (Tavistock) had 39pts. R Greenhalgh (Holsworthy) won the mens nearest the pin and winning the ladies nearest the pin was Gilly Jarvis (Yelverton). Gilly also won the ladies longest drive and Max Clarke (Tavistock) won the mens longest drive.
There was close scoring in the mens Whitsun Bowl with Nick Mier scoring nett 66 in division one, second Mike Wakely nett 67 on countback from Dave Treble. But topping division two and winning the Whitsun Bowl was Darren Sturnman with a nett 63; second was Alan Sturt with a nett 71 and third Paul Mace with nett 73
In the ladies monthly Stableford first in division one was Fran Horton with 39pts, second Maggie Hillman 38pts and third was Wendy George with 37pts. In division two Gail Reed scored 40pts and second, on countback from Gloria Westhead, was June Kendall with 38pts. Marion Stenhouse had 41pts to top division three with Hazel Phipps in second place with 39pts on countback from Margaret Burn.
