MORE than 40 members of Tavistock Wheelers have entered the Dartmoor Classic Cycling Sportive, within 48 hours of entries being open.

The Classic, which takes place on Sunday, November 23, is the West Country's biggest Sportive.

It offers routes of 65 miles and 105 miles with the longer route passing through the Tavistock area.

Geoff Whitlow, the chairman of Tavistock Wheelers, said: 'This is a phenomenal number of entries, given the size of population in our catchment area.

'There is also a wide range of abilities within our entries, from those who will be happy to get round to those who will be aiming to do the fastest times, amongst the 3,000 entries.

'It is still possible to make an entry but, with the popularity of cycling, they will run out soon. Somebody with a reasonable level of fitness could make it a target for next year and start their preparation now with Tavistock Wheelers.'
