Sampford Peverell 8

OKEHAMPTON A hosted top of the table Sampford Peverell in what was likely to be the toughest match of the season.

Paul Love and Sam Whalley struggled with the pace and lost the first match 3-6 3-6. They battled hard in their second match but lost 2-6 3-6. Okehampton's second pairing of Stuart Jarvis and Adam Richards couldn't get used to the heavy spin of the opposition and with Adam's elbow injury they lost the first set 1-6.

The second set saw them fully committed to the cause until Adam overstretched retrieving a ball and pulled a leg muscle, so the pair had to forfeit, resulting in an 8-0 loss for the home team.

Okehampton Men's B 5

Tiverton B 4

HAVING lost the away fixture 8-0 Okehampton knew they were in for a tough evening. However, the partnership of Steve Parsons and Daniel Howell made quick work of defeating Tiverton's second pairing 6-2, 6-4.

John Jarvis and Martin Pearce took a lead in both sets against the first pair but lost 4-6, 3-6.

John and Martin eased to a comfortable 6-3, 6-3 victory in the second rubber to set up a crucial decider in the other match.

Steve and Dan looked in real trouble after losing the first set 1-6, but they decided to switch sides and took the second set by 7-6. In a nail biting tiebreak they were narrowly defeated by 10 points to 8.

The victory virtually guarantees Okehampton B fourth place in the league and provides a confidence boost.

Newton Abbot Ladies' B 0

Okehampton Ladies 8

OKEHAMPTON Ladies travelled to Newton Abbot to play their B team. Confidence was high and Okehampton wanted to get maximum points to stay at the top of the table.

Jackie Jarvis and Angela Herrod-Taylor made an excellent start and sailed through to a convincing win 6-1, 6-2.

In their second match Jackie and Angela played well. Angela played some excellent lobs and Jackie slotted home numerous smashes at the net to win 6-0, 6-0.

Beth Dennis and Kath Bolt took the first set 7-5 and the second 6-2. Having gained greater confidence they started their second match with renewed vigour and won 6-1, 6-3. This gave Okehampton maximum points and finds them five points clear at the top of Division 5.
