IT was clear from the outset the boys were at a pack weight disadvantage. With delivery from the set piece initially running in favour of The Oaks, and despite some excellent tackling by the likes of Max and Ed, Plymstock ran in an early try to the corner but failed to convert. Al's probing restart kick posed a question the Oaks could not answer, conceding a penalty for holding. Quickly taken and with first class play from the whole back line, Reuben ran in the perfect reply from the wing to the corner. Unfortunately the conversion was out of reach.
After several phases of hard fought play, Tavistock were rewarded with their first penalty. Al's tap restart saw the ball back in Ben's hands and The Oaks had no answer to his pace. It was a great solo try, safely converted by Al.
The Oaks came back hard and after several minutes of stalwart defence from the whole team, and despite conceding a penalty for holding, a thumping tackle and ball collect by Ben gave Soul some space with ball in hand. Soul ran in from halfway popping a superb pass out to give Ed the try.
Stung by the half time scoreline, The Oaks came back with great determination running in an excellent backline try but failed to convert. Another deep restart by Al put them immediately back under pressure.The Tavistock pack began to fire, twice wheeling the opposition and then winning clean ball. Superb handling saw the Oaks left standing as Max ran in under the posts with Al converting for the seven points.
The next ten minutes was marked by sustained pressure by The Oaks. Soul, Ben, Nathan and Morgan in particular put in some fantastic tackles, although heavy contact earned Ben and Nathan temporary injury time. After narrowly missing another try opportunity to quality defence, the 22 drop out gave Morgan the chance to charge the ball back at the opposition. The ensuing ground play demonstrated the benefits of excellent coaching with Tavistock emerging on top. Great tackling (notably by Morgan) gave Ed his first true chance of ball in space, running in another try, safely converted by Al.
Another solo run gave Ed his hatrick for Al to convert. Jack ran in a top notch last try to seal another team victory.
