A DAY of close matches and wonderful weather was enjoyed by spectators of Sunday's 20/20 premiership round.

The first game between Tavistock and Whitchurch saw Whitchurch take the upperhand with two wickets.

In Jez Stokes' first over a missed chance was costly for them, with Aaron Churchill hitting a fantastic 72 not out in ten overs, ably supported by Josh Stephens 39 not out, giving Tavistock 128 in their ten overs.

Next up saw championship winners Sticklepath beat a young Yelverton side who performed admirably under skipper Chris Pearson.

Whitchurch then beat Bridestowe in a close game that went to the last over.

Lewdown beat Yelverton comfortably, while Tavistock saw off a spirited effort from Bridestowe to reach the final.

In what amounted to a semi-final, Lewdown beat Sticklepath comfortably to set up a showdown with Tavistock to see who would progress into the county quarter finals.

Lewdown batted first and accumulated their runs steadily.

Matt Witcher's 53 not out was the highlight of the innings while Chris Bray's 2-13 was excellent for Tavistock.

In reply, Tavistock openers Sean Daymond and Aaron Churchill timed their effort with superb precision chasing the 103 for victory, which they achieved without loss with one over to spare.

Aaron Churchill's 59 not out gave him the man of the match award and as captain he also collected the trophy from sponsor Tony Kaminski.

Thanks were expressed to the bar staff, tea ladies, Barry Milligan, umpires and scorers who made the day such a success.
