WEST Devon A did their title hopes no harm at all in the Tavistock Snooker League with a hard fought 4-1 win over West Devon D and to keep themselves in touch with the leaders.
Heathman hit a rich vein of potting form to put West Devon A team one up as he amassed 98 points to overpower the D team's Shrimpton (junior). The lead was stretched by Kevin Rich but not before being taken all the way to the black ball by a combative performance from Murton.
Shoulders shrugged off WD A team's Taylor to reduce the deficit, never looking in trouble in a one sided contest. Another close game followed as Morris for WD A had his hands full in containing a resurgent Decieco with this game also going to the black ball. Morris eventually took the frame, gratefully accepting a foul on the black from Decieco to secure it.
Emptage secured the four points for WD A team with a win over the WD D team's skipper Hooper; a 25 break for Emptage proved pivotal in the frame. It was a well needed four points for West Devon A team but West Devon D team can count the cost of two black ball games that did not go their way.
For the Conservative Z team against West Devon B team they lacked a number of their top players.
Jankowski for the Con Z took to the table against Smith. The game reached stalemate at one point with the black ball hovering precariously over a pocket closely surrounded by four reds; both players delicately picked their way around the table for ten minutes in an effort to avoid the inevitable. Jankowski held his nerve superbly, and went on to take the frame.
McKechnie for Con Z produced a 'slow and steady' performance to see off Roger Rich. Symons had a much tougher game on his hands against Dave Hoar, who gave him a run for his money and it was tight all the way. Hoar eventually surrendered to Symons persistence and tenacity although it was a close run thing.
It was 3-0 in frames when the normally reliable Dodd for the Con Z came to the table against Horrell. Horrell then proceeded to run rings around Dodd. Con Z's new signing Chris Mayors performed exceptionally well in his debut against a slightly bewildered Gilchrist, racking up 75 points, the highest score of the evening.
