South Zeal Utd 3
Dolphin 1
ZEAL produced their best performance of the season last Thursday evening when they progressed to the final of the Bill Slee Cup by beating favourites Dolphin by three goals to one.
The visitors took the lead after 15 minutes when a shot hit Zeal keeper Reg Wonnacott on the shoulder and fell for a Dolphin forward to score from close range.
Ricky Drew put Zeal level when he hit a tremendous free kick from 25 yards into the roof of the Dolphin net after a foul on Redd Cann.
The teams turned round at half time at 1-1 and within 15 minutes of the restart Ricky Drew scored again when a move involving Darren Gilbert, Harley Cann and Stuart Entwistle gave Ricky a chance 12 yards from goal and his accurate shot found the far corner of the Dolphin net.
With the wind at their backs Dolphin tried everything to get back into the tie but when Scott Hooper intercepted a pass and put Harley Cann through down the left Zeal went 3-1 up as Harley beat two defenders and crossed for Darren Gilbert to score at the near post and make the tie safe for Zeal who meet Colaton Raleigh in the final.
Previously Zeal beat Hemyock 5-3 away with goals from Scott Hooper (2), Harley Cann, Stuart Entwistle and Redd Cann, but lost at home 2-0 to a good Upottery side.
