Okehampton ladies’

OKEHAMPTON thirds travelled to Plymouth on Saturday to take on the young, fit University team.
Oke took a while to settle into their game getting accustomed to the pitch. The university team were quick onto the ball and used their pace to move the play quickly up the pitch.
Lois Rowlands, playing at right back for Oke, was up against a fast wing but she kept her channelled out wide and made many crucial tackles during the game to keep her Uni player out of the game.
In the latter part of the first half Oke found their rhythm with some good interceptions from midfielder Emily Rowlands giving Oke possession of the ball.
Right half Elsa Frangleton was also quick off the mark picking up the ball and carrying it deep into the Uni half. This continued pressure resulted in several penalty corners being awarded to Oke.
Larissa Goodger received the ball at the top of the circle and then put a perfectly placed pass wide of the right post to Annebelle Rademaker, who neatly deflected the ball into the Uni net giving Oke the lead at half time.
The Oke team continued to dominate the play in the second half putting pressure on the Uni defence. Larissa Goodger picked up a penetrating pass from midfield and finding space in front of the Uni goal, she outwitted the goalie by lifting the ball high into the Uni net for their second goal.
The Uni team fought back forcing the Oke keeper and player of the match Daisy Morgan to leave her line and clear the ball from high in the circle. She also made several crucial saves to keep her team in the game when the fast Uni forwards pressurised the Oke goal.
Oke increased their lead when Maddie Arden, who had made several penetrating runs carrying the ball towards the Uni circle, put a thundering cross in front of the goal where she found Louise Watts who scored to give Oke a 3-0 win.
