TAVISTOCK Tennis Club held its annual Hospice Cup Tournament. This is a charity event at which members and participants are asked to donate to Children's Hospice South West.

Despite a mixture of showers and sunshine, participants enjoyed a fun day, with the eventual winners at 6-3 being Sue Parsons and Matt Smith who beat runner's up, Trish Locker and Max Goodison.

The club's annual dinner and disco was held at Tavistock Golf Club the following week. The town mayor, Councillor Ann Johnson and her husband, Paul were guests of honour.

The mayor  praised the contribution the tennis club made to the sporting opportunities available for the residents of the town.

The winners of the Hospice Cup  were not able to be present to receive their trophy which had been donated by Mike Blagrove, a former member, in memory of his late wife.

Club chairman, Garth Georg presented Rod Watson with the Member of the Year Cup and a case of wine in appreciation of his services to the club including ten year years as treasurer.

The tournament was organised by Max Goodison and the dinner by social secretary Mike Prout. £266 was raised for Hospice South West.
