Tavistock 2

Teign 2

TAVISTOCK bounced back from defeat last week and gained a hard fought point against a strong and experienced Teign side, despite twice taking the lead.

After an even opening 15 minutes it was the home side who took the lead when Mark Forshaw flicked high to the keeper’s right from a penalty corner following good individual skills from both Willetts and Stanbury on the left hand side.

The visitors were level within five minutes, after being awarded a free hit it was the Teign player, who reacted fastest and restarted the game immediately which denied the Reds’ defence the oportunity to set and a smart interchange of passes allowed Teign to level when the ball was hit past Bond.

Moments before half time Teign had the chance to take the lead following another overhead from their centre back found a forward who took the ball into the D one on one with Bond; the Tavistock keeper was off his line in a shot and was able to make an impressive save before more good work from Chevin and Jeffery cleared the danger.

The second half followed much the same pattern as the first half. Tavistock again took the lead and it was from another penalty corner. It was the quick thinking of skipper Tom Honey that allowed him to take on a shot at goal himself, the shot beating both the keeper and the defender on the left post.

Teign hit back again with a well taken shot in a congested D. As the clock ticked down it was the home side who looked more likely to score but they were unable to grab a goal and take all three points.

With rivals Exeter University and Marjon both losing Tavistock sit in fourth place only seperated from second and third place on goal difference.
