Tavistock Reserves 3

Callington Reserves 1

TAVISTOCK continued their impressive unbeaten run that stretches back to mid-November with a victory over their local rivals. Stewart Cawte's men were looking for their sixth straight win in the league, and they were eager to take the game to their lower-placed visitors.

From the kick-off, Tavistock striker Ian Rooke played an impressive ball into the path of Jack Crago, who tormented Callington's right back and forced an early corner. From the corner, Kevin Kendall found the head of Scott Rennie, who rose above the visiting defence to open the scoring in the opening minute.

The Lambs continued to push and they soon found themselves 2-0 up when James Phelps teed up Crago, whose deflected shot found the bottom corner beating the despairing dive of away 'keeper Jay Richmond. It was a superb start for the home side who carried this lead into half-time.

Callington battled away at the start of the second half, until the knockout blow came courtesy of Rooke, who, after a bit of a scramble in the away defence, tapped home past Richmond with the aid of a post, to give the Tavistock an unassailable 3-0 lead. Callington did pull a goal back to reduce the arrears, when Joe Discombe fired a low free-kick on goal, home 'keeper Tom Sparrow made the save; however, Phil Burgoyne was on hand to follow up the rebound.

Tavistock then moved up a gear to pull away again but could not convert a number of chances after getting into decent areas.

Three red cards were dished out by referee Sandy Compton when a melee resulted in Josh McCabe and Andre Rodikov getting their marching orders for the visitors after showing violent conduct. Marc Solomon for Tavistock was also sent off in the same incident for the hosts.

The Lambs are now unbeaten in 14 games in all competitions, 11 wins and three draws have seen the Red and Blacks mount a serious challenge for a top two finish.
