SIX members of Tavistock Swimming Club have been participating in the ASA South West young aquatics volunteer scheme.

It includes volunteering in different activities at the club, such as leading the land training, and assisting with coaching of the younger members under the direction of the head coach James Best.

As part of the scheme Sophie Anderson, Gavin Ball, Harriet Edwards, Megan Groom, Chloe Marks and Kieran Rookes had to organise an event and they decided to organize a gala for swimmers aged 14 and under.

It gave the young members an opportunity to compete in a small gala and gain experience of racing. They invited another club – RN/RM from Plymouth – to compete.

They enlisted the assistance of the committee members, club officials and parents to assist them in the running of their gala.

The swimmers gained confidence and enjoyed the gala and many personal best times were achieved. The parents also enjoyed the gala and many congratulated the young volunteers for putting on the event.

The swimmers who took part in the gala were Gemma Arundel, Olivia and Sam Bates, Ben and Jessica Bowles, Issy and James Brodribb, Megan Brogen, Callum Burden, Krystina, Sam and Stephanie Cade, James Close, Charlotte Davies, Emily and Jake France, Amber Francis, Thanae Garland, Alex Hobbs, Ryan Lillyman, Ellie McCall, James Meredith, Alfie, Daisy and George Morgan, Jemma Ninnis, Hamish and Ieuan Noakes, Polly Pain, Elena and Lucie Prior, Beth Scott, Sarah Teague, Maddie Wall, Annaliese Wright, and they are pictured with club coaches James and Nathaniel and the young volunteers – Sophie, Kieran, Harriet, Chloe, Megan and Gavin.
