THREE athletes from Tavistock Athletic Club were honoured at the Armada Athletics presentation evening.
Armada Athletics is a network of local clubs in south west Devon, who organise events (athletic and road running) and work to promote the sport. They organised a Grand Prix of 11 local running races in 2017 and those athletes who took part in seven or more events were awarded with an achievement trophy.
The highest male point scorer from Tavistock AC was Tony Shearer and the highest female point scorer was Kate Rogers. Martin Exley-Deane also received an achievement award.
Three TAC juniors took part in the 3k race organised by Armada Athletics on December 13 at Central Park in Plymouth.
A cold, stormy evening greeted the 100+ runners, but the festive spirit and a promise of a free mince pie kept everyone happy on the night.
The hilly, footpath course is poorly lit which makes for difficult racing conditions. However, the youngsters from Tavistock were not deterred and set off at a ferocious pace. Birchfield Harrier Daniel Watling went off the front of the race at around the halfway point to win by 14 seconds.
Bradley Stevens and Michael Barton from the Tavistock AC chased hard and managed to drop Jordan Fox and then battled for the line to finish in second and third place respectively, but both given the same time of 10mins 40 secs.
Under 15 girl Tilly McDowell had a great run to win the ladies’ race in 12 minutes 15 seconds from the experienced Jane Allison of Plymouth Harriers (12mins 27secs).
