FOUR men from West Devon will this weekend undertake an adventurous race along a challenging route to raise funds for the Triangle Centre in Tavistock.
Ricky Hann, David Helcoop, Paul Turner and Craig Mulholland are to complete the fourth Samworth Brothers' Charity Challenge — a race taking full advantage of Loch Lomond in Scotland and the surrounding breath-taking scenery the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
All four men, managers from Tamar Labels, have all been affected by cancer in one way or another, and decided to raise money for a local charity. The Triangle Centre was created to support people with cancer, their families and carers.
The centre is a local healthcare venture bringing together the expertise of professionals in cancer care, so that support can be offered at any stage of the illness.
Their team is called 'In-Traction' and will be one of 40 teams to race this Saturday (June 8). They will race to complete the course on foot, in canoes and on bikes and to raise the most money for their chosen charities.
The section on foot is between 12 and 15km, with a height gain of 970m; on the loch, the canoe section is 10km long; and the bike route is between 40 and 44km long with a height gain of 350m.
The event base will be on the shore of Loch Lomond and it will be the centre of all activity for the start and finish lines and between the main activity stages. Teams will head back to the event base to log times and checkpoints and to take the opportunity to change clothing and stock up on supplies of water and food.
Tamar Labels supply Ginsters, Tamar Foods and Kensey Foods, which are all owned by the Samworth Brothers.
