Tavistock firsts 2

Plymouth Marjon B 1

A BRIGHT, sunny Saturday at the home pitch at Kelly College saw the first meeting this year between Tavistock and Plymouth Marjons. Following a few last minute changes to the Tavistock team a sense of trepidation was present in the pre-match motivation.

From the off Tavistock looked lively, taking the young Marjons side by surprise and deft interplay between Hanson and Matt Edwards saw Edwards score an early goal — keeping cool under the pressure of an advancing keeper and slotting home inside the post within three minutes.

Heads and spirits were high and in the seventh minute Edwards was repeating the performance this time aided and abetted by fellow front man Dom Stanbury.

At 2-0 up Tavistock wanted to keep control and there was superb work through out by midfield Marchant, Sam Stanbury and Hanson and Matt Pugsley, substitute for the injured Edwards senior. Marjons started to take more control with Tavistock keeper Paul Mingo was tireless, pulling off a number of denials to Marjon's attempts. The welcome return of Dale Wood strengthened the dedication of Anning and Bellard at the back, with Passmore progressing with each game to show great promise and talent.

With the pressure almost constant Marjon's had their due reward to peg backs the difference at 2-1 at half time.

The arrival of substitute Honey senior added legs to the second half. Tavistock showed great character, absorbing much pressure, with occasional forays to the Marjon 'D'.

Good work in the midfield battle by Tavistock held off the hungry Marjon side and full marks went to all the defence and especially keeper Mingo and Dave Anning who, picked a bullet of a shot out of the air to hold on to the 2-1 win..
