OLYMPIC swimmers were part of the competition when Tavistock Swimming Club took part in Devon County relay championships held at the Plymouth Life Centre.

For the first time the relay gala took place as a long-course event with a number of Tavistock swimmers experiencing this 50m lengths competition for the first time.

The Tavistock men's open relay team of Matt Edwards, Nathaniel Rookes, Josh Lake and Lee Cobb competed in both the highly competitive 4x100m freestyle and the medley relays, finishing with good fourth places in both events.

The boys 15/16 years team of Kieran Rookes, Cameron McGurk, James Anderson and Harry Thompson also produced good swims to achieve fourth places in both their 4 x 50m freestyle and medley relays.

The girls 15/16 years team, composed of Harriet Edwards, Izzy Teague, Sophie Anderson and Jessamy Clemens, achieved fine finishes of sixth place in both their relays.

Sarah Teague, Gemma Arundel, Laura Meredith & Bethany Thompson competed as the team in the girls 11/12 years' age group and earned themselves a fifth place finish in their freestyle relay and sixth place in their medley relay.

The boy's 13/14 years team of Luke Stephens, Jake France, Alex Francis & Johannis Clifford-Flower enjoyed the experience and swam well to produce ninth places finishes in both their relays.

All the swimmers produced good swims, with almost all the teams beating their entry times.

'With very hard competition, our little club stood up to some real giants, even from the 2012 Olympics. My swimmers produced over and above, showing Tavistock can race with the best, said Tavistock's proud head coach, James Lake.
