FIVE Tavistock Athletic Club runners took part in the Bovey Beauty, a 10-mile hilly off-road race. For those keen on off-road running it is a superb course with almost every conceivable type of terrain under foot. Run in lovely weather the scenery was at its best. It attracted a friendly mixture of young and old. The 10mile race is set in the Lustleigh area — much in woodland managed by the Woodland Trust. Many of the trails making up the route are public rights of way used by energetic walkers to explore the area which is just covered by the Dartmoor OS map. However, David Rickwood, the race director and Woodland Trust manager for Devon had managed to find some terrain that was distinctly ‘off piste’. Although a registered Fell Race the route was well marshalled and waymarked clearly throughout and no one was lost – quite an achievement in its own right. The TAC runners were pleased with their experience so it is unfair to single out individual performances – except perhaps that one of the members started five minutes late and managed to catch up with one or two of the others.
