Tavistock 3

Plymouth Marjon A 1

TAVISTOCK received a last minute boost when Dave Langton and Si Fenwick both passed late fitness tests to play as well as Mark Forshaw becoming available; it was these three late editions who each scored to help Tavistock to victory.

The home side got off to the perfect start when Forshaw flicked a penalty corner past the Marjons’ keeper in the first five minutes; however, the visitors converted a well worked opportunity to level, with the hosts leading for less than 10 minutes. Tavistock looked dangerous on the attack with Blonden in possession through the midfield and the exceptional link up play between Carr and Forshaw in the front line.

The score was tied at 1-1 at half time in a contest between two equally matched teams.

Fortunately for the Reds they got the third goal of the game when Dave Langton finished calmly from the edge of the D, following a clever crossfield aerial from Forshaw. With time running out the visitors increased the pressure of the Tavistock backline but centre back pairing of Chevin and Jeffery rarely looked troubled and were able to link well to transfer the ball out of defence with the help of Willetts, Marchant and Berry.

With six minutes remaining Fenwick was given the ball on the left hand side of the D and his shot found the far corner of the goal to give Tavistock a two goal advantage.

Despite twice being reduced to 10 men Tavistock were able to maintain discipline in their defensive structure to prevent Marjons from creating any opportunities on goal.

The win saw Tavistock move to the top of the league ahead of Exeter University on goal difference.
