FOLLOWING Okehampton’s promotion last season back into the South League, game day four of the season was the eagerly anticpated West Devon derby.
Okehampton started brightly as they looked to attack straight from the first pass; however, it was the visitors who enjoyed greater possession and looked the more likely to score in the early stages.
Tavistock’s Robynne Fenwick opened the scoring with a well placed shot from the top of the D following a clever build up and interchange between Alice Lamb and Erin Shillaw. The visitors continued to look for a second goal with Lamb senior, Gaspar and Law all looking like they could get on the score sheet for the Reds. The half ended with Tavistock leading 1-0.
Tavistock kept applying the pressure and were able to win the ball back off Okehampton and keep them penned in ther own half, after a number of short corner chances centre half Amy Headon pounced on the ball at the back post to put the away side 2-0 up.
Player of the match Hannah Nevin contributed another trademark performance as her team’s midfield engine and it was she who linked well with captain Janice Scott to then set Lamb free on the right; she in turn was able to set up Gapsar to compelte the scoring for Tavistock. The win sees Tavistock move up to third in the league.
