Tavistock ladies firsts 4
Falmouth ladies 2
TAVISTOCK faced Falmouth on Saturday. a game that was as much about mental strength as physical.
Both teams set off with winning intentions showing through their play, however, it was Falmouth who found themselves with an early lead scoring a high deflection into the D.
The away side soon fell into their rhythm and a second goal quickly followed making the score line 2-0 after 20 minutes, but the game was only getting started. Tavistock ladies (pictured in red and black) upped their game and soon found their own rhythm; several scoring opportunities soon fell their way and some well worked short corners were awarded.
A composed pass from Nevin at the top of the circle landed captain Scott with a shot on goal to be saved by Falmouth’s keeper; however, a deflected ball into the air saw Tavistock’s Law pounce and secure the ball into the goal.
The ladies were not finished, as a second goal by Law saw the scoreline 2-2 at half time.
Full of confidence, Tavistock settled into the game playing some skilful hockey. The defence line looked composed and confident with Pollock, Evans and Colwill reading any attacking opportunities the opposition had.
Quick transfers and passing through centre half Headon, in the middle of the pitch, saw another short corner and this was an opportunity that Lamb and Fenwick were adamant to make count. A calm and collected pass from Lamb fed Fenwick the ball in front of the keeper, and an accurate shot resulted in Tavistock taking the lead for the first time.
Work rate and effort did not fade for either team, Falmouth finding a few gaps in Tavistock’s defence; however, it was Tavistock who were to have the last goal of the game; Fenwick found herself confronting the keeper once more but it was Nevin who had the last touch of the ball securing a 4-2 win for the home side.
