Tavistock Ladies 2nds 2

Plym Valley 3rds 0

THE first game of the season saw defending league champions Tavistock ladies 2nds away to Plym Valley 3rds.

Tavistock had the push back and made a strong attacking start, challenging the Plym Valley defence immediately.

With play very much one sided, Tavistock had ample opportunities to score and it was only the hard work of the Plym Valley goalie that made sure this didn’t happen. After a well thought out run by the midfield and a rebound off the goalie, Lois Thornton finally gave Tavistock the lead.

The goal woke Plym Valley up and they played with more force and determination forcing a couple of short corners.

Thankfully with an amazing save from Tavistock goalie Emma Jackman and the defence holding strong no goals were scored.

The second half saw Plym Valley continuing with their fighting spirit and they came out strongly.

However with guidance from Nikki Wood the defence stayed sound. The Tavistock midfielders were soon back on the attack with Lola and Josie Francis the engine of the team.

Quick breaks by Annalise Wright and Amber Lazenbury on the wings saw Tavistock back in control. With fantastic passing by Alice and Ella Woolcock and a great feed into Lois by Josie, Tavistock scored their second goal.

This was a great start for Tavistock with the whole team contributing to a well deserved win. Well done to Josie Francis for being player of the match.

Next Sunday Tavistock are away to OPM at Lipson, 12.30pm start.
