Western Counties West

Torquay Athletic 21

Tavistock 12

TAVISTOCK travelled down to Torquay with a team starting to return strength. The visitors kicked off and play went from one end to the other with both teams applying pressure when Tavistock was given a penalty in their own 22 and decided to run it out. Richard Goldsby- West passed it out to Willy Gibb who made ground before he off- loaded to Simon Braithwaite who passed to David Goodspeed; he chipped over the full back and outpaced another player to ground the ball. Goldsby-West converted.

Tavistock and Torquay traded scrums and line outs with each team winning their own put in. The visitors defence held up well but Torquay put together a couple of phases which saw them touchdown and converted equalling the score. At the kick-off Duncan Law and Gibbs passed the ball along the line to Braithwaite who was tackled and injured; Torquay went on to score another try and convert while Tavistock readjusted.

The second half saw both teams make errors, Tavistock took the advantage of a loose kick by Torquay to see Ben Hadfield collect and run to within three metres of the post a quick recycle of the ball saw Braithwaite go over in at the corner. Goldsby-West missed the conversion.

During Tavistock's second try, the home team were reduced to 14 players. This seemed to galvanised the home side and put pressure onto Tavistock straight from the kick off. Tavistock were able to repel the home sides attacks until Torquay found a gap and went in at the corner to extended lead and converted. Tavistock upped their game and were unfortunate to not come away with a bonus point but it had been had a huge improvement from the week before.
