Western Counties West

Tavistock 31

Teignmouth 41

TAVISTOCK can be proud of their fighting spirit, which they showed in abundance against the league champions Teignmouth at Sandy Park.

They may be relegated after a poor season but if this performance is anything to go by then surely they could bounce back in style from the Cornwall and Devon division this time next year.

Tries from the visitors' Jake Bury and Andy Webber established a 21-0 lead for Teignmouth but Tavistock replied with a well taken Steve Luffman try. Three more tries for the South Devon side stretched their lead as the teams went in at the interval.

However, it was not all Teignmouth and Richard Goldsby-West touched down for Tavistock and converted his own score. Two more tries came for the visitors as Goldsby-West added another for the red and blacks.

There were more home tries from captain Doug Lloyd and Goldby-West, both converted by the latter in the last 15 minutes but it was Teignmouth who ran out winners by 10 points.

It was certainly a decent attempt by Tavistock, albeit a defeat, against the best team in the league and the home side must take some consolation from their play over the last few weeks which has seen them notch a few victories.
