Tavistock firsts v
Alphington firsts AFTER losing at Dartington last week Tavistock looked to bounce back with a home game against Alphington.
Preparations had not gone well captain Sean Daymond out with a broken foot and John McGahey was drafted up to captain the first team in his absence.
Things started well after winning the toss and asking Alphington to bat, Lee Baker got one to nip back and beat Australian Morris's defence and bowled him middle stump.
Haynson (31) and Gaymer (19) took the score on to 65 for the next wicket but then Ainscough was superbly caught by Milligan at deep mid wicket and Shepherd was caught by James McGahey attempting to scoop as they slumped to 94-5. But then captain James hit a quick fire 38 before being caught and bowled by Gauler. Alphington ended on 185-9
John McGahey and Aaron Churchill (37) started the reply they were flying along when McGahey was bowled for 28. Colin Broughton on debut scored a fine 35. Even after they were all out Tavistock were cruising at 158-4 before they collapsed — only Witcher with 32 showed any resistance. It started with a silly run out and then six wickets fell for only 19 runs. Tavistock watched victory and ten points slip away.
