Okehampton 0
Tavistock 9
TAVISTOCK were in a confident mood for this West Devon derby following their two wins last weekend which secured the league title. However the reds were aware that derby games can often produce unexpected results.
The visitors starred the brighter of the two teams and enjoyed the majority of possession and territorial advantage; however, it took nearly 20 minutes for the game’s opening goal when Barney Megicks scored when he gained control of the ball in the D, before slapping it past the the Oke keeper.
Megicks soon doubled his and Tavistock’s lead when he deflected in a well executed penalty corner.
The third goal was from a penalty corner, this time Fenwick flicking high into the net.
Shortly before half time forward Sam Willetts deflected in cleverly at the far post to give the newly crowned champions a 4-0 lead at half time.
There were times in the second half where Tavistock played some of their most effective attacking hockey of the season and opened up the home defence with ease. Fenwick scored two in quick succession, the first after he picked up his own rebound and the second a powerful strike on the turn from the edge of the D thanks to a pin point pass from skipper Tom Honey.
Fenwick robbed the Oke centre back of the ball and slipped a pass to Willetts to tap in his second of the game; just moments later the same two players linked up again this time Willetts setting up Fenwick for the simple tap in for his fourth goal of the game. Megicks showed the composure and skill late in the game to score his hat-trick and Tavistock’s ninth goal of the game.
