Truro first 1

Tavistock first 4

TAVISTOCK travelled to Truro looking to maintain their 100% start and keep top spot in the league and despite a below par performance they came away with the three points.

The visitors started brightly and should have taken the lead when Richards set up Fenwick; however he failed to hit the taget and the chance was missed. Fenwick and Forshaw both had penalty corner flicks saved by the keeper before the opening goal was scored by Will Jones.

Tavistock hit the home side with a quick counter attack when captain Tom Honey found Richards, who in turn played Fenwick through against the keeper; the ball spilled to Jones who coolly finished with his reverse stick.

The counter attack which led to the goal was started by man of the match Sam Willetts. Willetts, who has been in terrfic form in the front line, played at left back but was still one of Tavistock’s major attacking threats with some devasting runs from deep.

Tavistock eventaully converted from a penalty corner when Megicks scored from close range. The Reds won another penalty corner at the end of the first half which was converted by Forshaw with a low flick to the keeper’s right hand side.

In the second half it was the home side who scored an early goal from a penalty corner. Tavistock had a number of chances in the second half with Carr, Fenwick, Honey, Forshaw and Richards all going close. However, it was Megicks who eventually scored when he stole the ball off the last defender and coolly slotted the ball past the keeper for his second goal.
