TAVISTOCK first XI are champions of the Devon B Division, following a thoroughly professional performance against promotion chasing Thorverton. In his penultimate game for the club, Thokozani Peter, brilliantly supported by the ever reliable Lee Baker, took the game away from Thorverton within the first 6 overs. They blew away the top order, leaving Thorverton reeling at 18-5. The middle order struggled against Jamie Stephens and James McGahey who bowled unchanged for the next 18 overs, whereby after 34 overs Tavistock had only scored 71 runs. Shaun Daymond bowling at the death, picked up two more wickets to add to his impressive season tally. Peter 3-20, Baker 2-20, Stephens 1-18 and Daymond 2-19 did the damage. This young and hungry Tavistock team continue to listen and learn and are now regularly demonstrating consistent good habits that will hold them in good stead in the higher leagues. Dom Scaglioni (19) and Ian Gray (36) who passed 500 runs for the season, added 44 in their customary solid start. Daymond 32 not out and Dave Manning with a very impressive 51 not out, including 21 off one over, saw Tavistock home with 15 overs remaining. Club president Stuart Munday told the Times:?'Tavistock first team's winning promotion and the championship has made an old man very happy!'
