Tavistock CFC ladies 2

AFTER two away matches, Tavistock were host to Newton St Cyres after successfully  completing a 43.5mile cycle to fundraise for their team.

Newton got off to the better start, pushing the defence of Tavistock with keeper Zoe Stock making some good saves.

Tavistock settled into the game after the first 20 minutes with some good possession with Robyn Hammond hitting the crossbar. Great battling saw Tavistock gain a corner with Laura Phillip superbly heading in a goal.

Tavistock started well in the second half. An early free kick saw Tavistock double their lead with a scorcher of a free kick from Robyn Hammond.

Newton St Cyres put the pressure on with their fast paced winger catching Tavistock off guard to score. Newton continued their pressure. A good kick from their keeper put their striker in who levelled the score.

The visitors pressed the defence managing a last minute shot, but Zoe Stock kept Tavistock in the game and resulting in extra time. Each team cancelled each others efforts in a tense extra time forcing penalties.

Gemma Small opened penalties with a confident goal. Newton scored with an equally confident shot. Tania Coker's confident penalty went down the middle and sent the keeper the wrong way. This was the player/manager's first goal for Tavistock.

Further penalties where scored for Tavistock by Robyn Hammond and player of the match Becky Gordon.

Penalties ended 4-4 to force sudden death. Chelsea Starbuck scored the winning penalty for Tavistock.
