FOUR male athletes from Tavistock Athletic Club made the trip to Cardiff for the U20s and seniors Indoor Track and Field South West Championships.

Will Dax (U20) and Josh Blake (U20), who are coached by Adam Tofield, successfully achieved silver medals in their respective events.

Josh raced in the 1500m along with some fast Welsh athletes, running a personal best by 10 seconds to finish second in his category. Will had a tougher time of it racing in a gruelling 3,000m with senior athletes and Welsh athletes. Will dug in to finish second overall in his category, picking up the silver medal.

Adam's coaching was then put to one side as he stepped up for his race. An unfamiliar event to him and far from his strongest event, he took on the 1500m in the senior champs. He battled well and hung in with athletes chasing him to take the silver medal to add to the squad's collection.

Sam Lane De Courtin competed on an indoor track for the first time. He ran a strong 1500m in the U20s' race sitting just in front of club mate Josh. Sam finished strongly to win the race to take the gold medal.

Tavistock Athletic Club's Power of 10 performance squad also returned from the recent Indoor Track and Field South West Championships the previous week in high spirit with an impressive haul of medals. Nine athletes travelled up to Cardiff and achieved 12 medals between them, of which five were crowned South West champion.

In the U15 girls category Holly Kinsey won silver medal in the 300m running and bronze in the 1,500m.

Freddie Williams, Jude White and Josh Davies all achieved great success — Freddie came away with an impressive three PBs in the 60m, 300m and long jump, winning a bronze in the latter; Jude won gold in the long jump before comfortably winning the 1500m to make it a second gold; Josh took bronze in a fast 300m race before striking gold in the 800m — he then entered the 60m where achieved the National Entry Standard.

In the U17 women's Mollie Rickwood fourth in the 1,500m and 800m; Jodie Stacey won bronze in the 1,500 and Emma Ryder showed true grit in the 300m to take bronze. Aimee Leigh-Clowes won the high jump by 15cm.

Jade Kinsey ran her heart out in the 300m and was rewarded with a gold medal and added a bronze in the 200m and a fourth place in the 60m.

Their coach was justifiably very happy with the outcome of the day. Adam Tofield said: 'I'm really proud of the squad and their achievements. I know how hard they have had to work for their success. The squad is looking very strong and I'm sure there will be many more achievements in 2015,'
