South West two

Plymouth Uni C 0

THIS was the penultimate game of the season and the game that would secure Tavistock’s promotion.

Tavistock were playing the bottom side in the league and had beaten them easily earlier in the season, but Tavistock were not counting their chickens and went into the game determined to get the right result.

Tavistock’s structure has turned their season round and they maintained this from the start and put the Uni under severe pressure from the start.

Playing a solid defensive line of Anning, Gott, MacDougal and Donnelly, the D was never really threatened. Osborne cleared a few kicks out but was never really troubled in goal.

The work from the midfield of Honey, Willets and the returning Richards kept the momentum and with the lively Campbell providing fresh legs the tempo of the game was high.

Orman marshalled the front line of Walker and Hancock,  well as the ever mobile Andrews.

The first half was a great team performance, with well worked goals resulting in simple push ins. Some of the link play was great to watch and created a hatful of opportunities.

The second half was a little more frantic and the composure and team work slacked. Once Tavistock managed to regain their structure, further goals followed and an impressive win secured next seasons hockey in South West 1.

Goals from Orman, Hancox, Willets and MacDougal crowned a superb performance, which needs to be maintained next week against a tough East Devon side that have beaten all the top teams this season.
