TAVISTOCK College pupil Tate Budge won gold at Stoke on Trent earlier this month to take part in the UK International Taekwon-do Federation English Championships.
Tate fought his way to gold in the Under 16s second degree black belt patterns and silver in U16s welter weight sparring.
These results coupled with gold at last year's ITF British Open results mean that Tate is the top ranked (U16s) second degree in black belt patterns in the country and is now eligible to train with the team UK squad.
Last Saturday Tate went to Bristol to train with the squad.
Tate has been studying Taekwon-do since the age of four and trains with South Coast Martial Arts two or three times a week in Plymouth and Tavistock.
The kickboxer is preparing for his next grading and thanks his coaches Mr Wood, Mr Burdock and Debbie Young for their continued support.
