THE finalists for the prestigious 2015 Exeter Foundation Devon Sports Award being held at Sandy Park have been announced.

A sportsman from West Devon appears on the list, having been chosen from more than 130 nominations in 32 different sports as varied as archery, athletics and Taekwon-do to sailing, skateboarding and table tennis.

Tate Budge from Tavistock, representing the sport of Taekwon-do, has been shortlisted for the awards in the outstanding performances in community sport.

The 15 year-old has recently had success in the UK ITF championships.

This year, finalists will be presented with their trophies and certificates by Mark Foster, Britain's most decorated male swimmer and Strictly Come Dancing star.

The awards take place on May 8. The awards, which celebrate the very best sporting contributions and achievements, aim to recognise those who inspire others at all levels in sport. This year coaches, volunteers, teams, athletes and clubs feature in the awards, all of whom have made outstanding contributions to their sport in Devon.

'The calibre of this year's entries is un-surpassed' said Matt Evans, chief executive of Active Devon. 'What is most pleasing is the number of nominations that we had for Devon Volunteer of the Year award. Volunteers work hard in their sports and so often go unrecognised, so this is one way that we can celebrate their achievements.

'There is a lot of excellent work going on out there on the pitches, tracks, school grounds and community halls around Devon. We want to thank everyone who nominated someone special in their sport and say keep up the good work.'
